Education In the Bahamas, education is mandatory between the ages of 5 through 16. The government maintains an extensive network of public schools and there are over 60 private schools throughout our islands. The Bahamian educational system is based on the British model with mandatory General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE's) prior to graduation. However, many of the private schools also teach varying advanced and international course offerings such as the International Baccalaureate program, Advanced Placement certificates, SAT prep and A-levels. Medical Throughout the Bahamas high-quality health care is offered through government and privately owned facilities. The Public Hospital Authority operates three hospitals. In Nassau, The Princess Margaret Hospital specializes in almost every major medical, ambulatory, and diagnostic service. In Freeport, The Rand Memorial Hospital provides medical services and procedures. In addition to these two government hospitals, the Sandilands Rehabilitation Center offers psychiatric and geriatric hospital services.
