Neighborhoods to Call Home - The Bahamas - Morley

Dreaming of waking up to the soft sounds of sea waves? With a home in The Bahamas, this could be your daily reality. But which of the country's small communities is right for you? We've covered these five Bahamas neighborhoods, as well as three more areas to consider, and we wanted to highlight a few more to set your sights on.

Two of these four neighborhoods below hold some of our finest Nassau and Paradise Island homes for sale while the other two are world reknown gems in our Family Island. Keep reading to learn more about each community and why it's worthy of your consideration.

  • Sandyport
Sandyport (whic also includes the Sandyport Marina Village) is a planned community that occupies the western end of the famous Cable Beach area on New Providence. This collection of pastel-colored luxury homes is crisscrossed by an interconnected network of canals that function similarly to the streets of a typical town. Each home is equipped with its own private boat dock, and residents freely flit through the waterways on their boats, paddleboards and kayaks.

Cable Beach is known for its world-class nightlife, so drinks and entertainment are never far away in Sandyport. The community also offers easy access to an abundance of amenities, including community swimming pools, tennis courts, playgrounds, shops, restaurants and more.

Our agents often recommend the Sandyport area to people who aren't sure if island life is for them. If you want to live the Bahamian lifestyle without giving up too many of the conveniences of the US mainland, one of our Cable Beach homes for sale may be the right property for you.

  • Hope Town, (Elbow Cay, Abaco)
First populated in 1785, Elbow Cay is a small Bahamian island that spans around 8 miles and is situated about 90 miles north of Nassau. The town's most distinctive feature is the Hope Town Lighthouse, an iconic red-and-white striped tower that lends it a quaint, old-fashioned feel. The historic settlement of Hope Town is the center of most of its economic and commercial activity, include the Wyannie Malone Historical Museum, the Hope Town Inn and Marina, the Firefly Sunset Resort, and the pristine Tahiti Beach. Search our Elbow Cay homes for sale to find you second home if this wonderful paradise.

Elbow Cay is also known as an excellent spot for activities like diving, snorkeling, and deep-sea fishing. Its soft, sandy shores offer easy access to deeper waters without requiring you to stray too far from the mainland.

  • Georgetown (Exuma)
Georgetown is the capital of the Exumas and sits on Great Exuma Island, right on top of the Tropic of Cancer. Centuries ago, the town began as a pirate stronghold before being settled by expats from Virginia and the Carolinas. It is now home to an estimated 900 residents.

Georgetown is known for its historical significance and gorgeous antique architecture, including its famous pink and white Government Building. However, not all of the town's charm lies in its past. Current residents can enjoy live entertainment at Club Peace and Plenty or sip a drink at the Two Turtles Inn. Many visit the island just to play golf at the Sandals Emerald Beach Golf Club, a world-class 18-hole course that golf enthusiasts can't resist.

Avid naturalists will enjoy exploring the ocean waters around Georgetown and partaking in fishing, boating, sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, and diving. The area's many caves and coral reefs make it a particularly good area for these pursuits. Be sure to check out these George Town homes for sale.

  • Charlotteville
With just 257 single-family homesites and 80 townhomes, Charlotteville is one of Nassau's most exclusive gated communities. Residents of this gated neighborhood enjoy the use of shared luxury amenities, including a clubhouse equipped with tennis courts and swimming pools.

Immediately across the street from Charlotteville is the Old Fort Bay Town Centre, where you'll find easy access to everything you could possibly want: shops, restaurants, schools while the International Airport is nearby.
